Garmin nüvi 260 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator

Written on 9 Februari 2010 – 17:50 | by naruto6249

Garmin’s nüvi 260 combines the thinprofile and attractive price point of other nüvi 200-series GPS with directions in real street names. As with all nüvis, you get Garmin reliability, the fast satellite lock of a high-sensitivity integrated receiver, a slim, pocket-sized navigator with a gorgeous display, detailed NAVTEQ maps that lets you search by name for more than 6 million points of interest like stores, restaurants or hospitals, and an easy, intuitive interface.

Which nüvi is Best for You?: Click here to see a quick, simple comparison of features for all Garmin nuvi GPS navigators.

The nüvi 260 comes preloaded with maps for U.S., Hawaii, and Puerto Rico, and features an ultra-slim design.

Text-To-Speech
The text-to-speech feature of the nüvi 260 means that device automatically calls out street names (saying “turn right on Main Street” instead of “turn right in 200 feet.”). This feature lets drivers keep their eyes on the road while navigating through busy traffic and tricky roadways.

Smart, Powerful Design
The nüvi 260W is built with a high-sensitivity GPS receiver for extreme accuracy, as well as an SD card slot for storing your media and additional navigation tools, and a USB interface for loading data. All this is wrapped up in a package that measures 4.8 x 2.9 x 0.8 inches (W x H x D) and weighs just 6.6 ounces. The nüvi display is touchscreen-enabled, making it a cinch to control the device with your fingertips. A rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides up to five hours of battery life depending on use.

Garmin Lock
Garmin’s patent pending theft prevention system that disables the unit from performing any functions until the user types in a specific 4-digit PIN or takes the unit to a predetermined secure location

Navigate with Ease
The nüvi 260 comes ready to go right out of the box with preloaded City Navigator NT street maps, including a hefty POI database with hotels, restaurants, fuel, ATMs and more. Simply touch the color screen to enter a destination, and nüvi takes you there with 2D or 3D maps and turn-by-turn voice directions. In addition, the nüvi 260 accepts custom points of interest (POIs), such as school zones and safety cameras and lets you set proximity alerts to warn you of upcoming POIs.

Important note about map updates: Due to our high volume of sales, almost every Garmin portable GPS navigator sold by Amazon.com will come with the most recent map version. If you ever do need a map update, you can purchase one from Amazon.com at our Garmin Store.

Easy To Use Interface
Garmin’s interface is a key to their success and one of the things that makes their devices such a pleasure to use. Simple controls and sub-screens make it easy to enter or search for destinations and get data about your trip.

Garmin's own navigation is easy to use

Beyond Navigation

It also comes with Garmin Lock, an anti-theft feature, and configurable vehicle icons that let you select car-shaped graphics to show your location on the map.

This device is compatible with optional content plug-ins available via SD card, such as the Garmin Travel Guides and Garmin SaversGuide provide detailed data for attractions and information on nearby merchants offering discounts, so you can customize nüvi for your travel needs.

Garmin has also added the ability for customers to add custom points of interest (POI’s) from third parties such as school zones and safety cameras.

Garmin Serial Port Cable for eTrex Compact GPS (010-10206-00)

Written on 9 Februari 2010 – 08:47 | by naruto6249

Garmin’s PC Interface Cable allows you to connect your GPS unit to your PC. Now you can create routes and waypoints at your leisure on your PC and transfer them to your GPS. You can also easily download map detail from MapSource CD-ROMs to GPS units. The cable features a standard nine-pin D connector for ultimate compatibility. Note that the Garmin PC Interface Cable does not provide wiring for external power.
Customer Review: Good Cable
Good little cable. Don’t worry about the people who complained about the price. If you can use it, buy it. And you will be glad you have it.
Customer Review: garmin serial port
Does what it’s supposed to do. It’ds much slower than USB, but I have an older GPS unit.

Customer Review: Has anyone used/bought this?
This looks pretty cool at first glance (I found it for $290 at another site). Anyone have one and want to comment? Can one use the MP3 player AND the GPS at the same time (like in the car? Map and listen to music? Or walk with directions and have tunes?). Let the world know! Thanks.

Written on 9 Februari 2010 – 03:13 | by naruto6249

The TomTom RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver gets traffic information on the go, to your GO. For the one-off cost of the receiver you can get traffic updates and let your GO reroute you around congestion.
Customer Review: Traffic antenna addon
This is a great product to add to your Tom Tom. I have the 730. This makes an already accurate GPS even more so. Don’t hesitate, add one of these to your GPS. Well worth the money.
Customer Review: Wrong picture!
I ordered this based off the picture and when I got it I realized it was the wrong one, so I sent it back and when I looked at the one I needed they had the picture for this model! Amazon needs to switch the pictures around to reflect the actual model you’re ordering!

Sony NVU44 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator with Text-to-Speech (Silver)

Written on 9 Februari 2010 – 00:12 | by naruto6249

The Sony nav-u portable satellite navigation system is more than basic digital maps; it is the system that gets you where you need to go quickly and efficiently with intuitive features that help you along your journey. The latest Sony navigation system brings Photo Viewer to an already packed and helpful unit.
Customer Review: Unfortunately it broke
The GPS was working well for a couple of weeks and I was happy enough. Then when I returned from a trip to VA, it stopped working. Now the battery will not charge and the touch screen does not work. So it is dead in the water. I contacted Tech Support and they told me to return it for repair, so I am hoping to return it to Amazon for refund. Too bad !!!
Customer Review: cant find streets
unit will not find some streets by street names it decides that I need to know the county road number. It also will just not find some roads that have been around for over 20 years. Sony tells me that if I buy their $50 map update it “might” fix the problem. I wasted enough money buying the unit. It does no good to have a gps that is lost half the time. I’m going back to Magellan.

Navigon 2100 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator

Written on 8 Februari 2010 – 14:58 | by naruto6249

In the U.S., German-based Navigon may be the biggest name in GPS you’ve never heard. Navigon has long been a major provider of navigation software to automotive manufacturers for in-dash gps navigation devices, but only recently did they introduce portable navigation devices under their own name. What they offer up, however, demonstrates immediately that this is a company that knows navigation inside and out.

The 2100 is the lowest-priced (and smallest) of Navigon’s line of portable GPS navigators. While it lacks some of the features of it’s bigger siblings, the 7100 and 5100, it packs solid navigation and some unique features  into its diminutive frame.

The Navigon Family of Portable Navigators
The 2100 and 5100 have 3.5-inch screens, while the 7100 has a 4.3-inch widescreen. The big difference is that the 5100 and 7100 come with free lifetime traffic data,  while with the 2100 you have to buy an activation code separately. The 5100 and 7100 have a feature called “Lane Assistant” that will suggest which lane you should be driving in, but that’s not such a big deal. Another important difference is that the 7100 also adds bluetooth-capability for hands-free mobile phone integration, which is really handy. If you want that feature, do check out the 7100. This chart may help as well.

Screen Size (diagonally) Bluetooth Lifetime Traffic Data Service Lane Assistant Reality View Zagat Ratings POIs
2100 3.5 inches Requires Purchase of Activation Code check 1.3 million
5100 3.5 inches Included Free check check check millions
7100 4.3 inches check Included Free check check check millions

Intuitive, animated menus offer predictive text input, helping you select your destination quickly. View larger.

The reality view guides you with photo-realistic 3D images of junctions. View larger.

Navigon decided not to try to add multimedia features like a photo viewer or MP3 player into its devices, but instead focused on navigation-based features. The 2100 provides precise turn-by-turn directions, including spoken road names via text-to-speech

Reality view guides you with photo-realistic 3D images of junctions, complete with actual sign text and exit ramp guidance. This makes translating what the navigator is telling you to what you see on the road instantaneous.

Superior Software and Hardware
The features and functions of the Navigon 2100 are controlled via intuitive, easy-to-use animated menus that use predictive text input to quickly and easily select your city, state and address. Maps and menus appear on its extra-large and elegant, high-contrast 3.5-inch, full-color touch-screen display. The 5100 includes a powerful Samsung 400 MHz processor, a fully integrated SiRF Star III GPS chip, 64 MBs of both RAM and ROM built in, and a rechargeable 1,200 mAh lithium ion battery that is rated for 4.5 hours of continuous use. All this is housed in an ultra-thin, sleek chrome housing that weighs only 6.3 ounces, and measures just 4.2 x 3.3 x 0.9 inches (W x H x D). The Navigon 5200 even comes pre-loaded with complete maps of the U.S. and Canada, providing you with superbly accurate, seamless door-to-door directions wherever your vehicular travels might take you.

Note that the 2100 runs on the Microsoft Windows CD Net 5.0 operating system. A PC is required to use additional map data, and in such cases users require Windows 2000, ME, XP or higher, as well as a CD ROM drive and a USB port. An SD/MMC card reader is recommended as the 7100 not only uses SD cards, but also comes with a 2 GB SD card in the package.

What’s in the Box

Navigon 2100 GPS Navigator, SD card preloaded with software and maps of the continental US, rechargeable 1150 mAH lithium ion battery (rated for up to 4.5 hours),
car charger, car mount, quickstart guide, limited warranty

Customer Review: Navigon 2120 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator
I have the Navigon 2120 device and it is identical to the 2100 model except that it contains both US and Canadian maps. You can load Canadian maps into the 2100 model too. The factory Navigon software wasn’t impressive; its route calculation is a bit slow & dumb, and the user interface has a lot of lag. The price was good at $80 CAD though. At this point I would’ve given this product 3 out of 5 stars. HOWEVER, I loaded Igo8 navigation software into this device and it does not lag anymore, its routes are faster & smarter, it shows 3D maps and buildings (if you’re into that kind of eye candy). It’s actually better than my dad’s $500 Garmin. An easy 5 out of 5 stars. Two friends ordered similar devices (Navigon 2100 MAX widescreen for $85 and free shipping) and they’re very happy with it. This beast with igo8 software makes Garmin and TomTom units look like overpriced brand-name units.
Customer Review: They should now be called NaviGONE.
I bought my Navigon GPS (7200T) because it had the most features for the lowest price. That still holds true. Very nice unit- attractive and works well, too. Recently, I wanted to update the maps, but there was no Freshmaps Activation card in the box from Amazon. You need the code on that card to get updates. So, I emailed Navigon support for assistance. They sent the following: ‘Thank you for your inquiry. Accessories, map material and content are not available in North America through NAVIGON. Unfortunately we don’t have information concerning the availability of these products at other major retail shops.’ As has been noted in the posted comments, and which I discovered too late, Navigon is pulling out of the North America market. Beware of this major change, and buy accordingly. They should now be called NaviGONE.

And now, there are added safety features so you can easily access local emergency providers. No activation, no monthly fees. Refurbished.
Customer Review: TOM TOM 130, it’s ok, but def one of cheaper models
I bought this because of the price and the tomtom name. I find it considers a curve in the road to be a turn and it frequently advises me to turn left or right on a straight road. I have quite a few miss turns however it always does get me to my destination. Putting addressess into it is a huge major pain. compared to my Garmin that I used to have. I would not have purchased the TOMTOM 130 had I known everything.
Customer Review: Get your TomTom on!
I purchased this unit to go on a trip this Summer. At this price, it’s cheaper than renting one for a week. I was actually quite pleased with it’s features. Not a lot of bells and whistles but who cares, it does what it’s supposed to do. That’s why I bought it. The update service is very cool too. You can add features to the unit directly from the web. No memory card to swap out and keep track of. It also uses mini usb connection to charge. Kudos to TomTom for keeping up with trends in power supplies. I like this gadget a lot. I highly recommend, especially for the price.
