Customer Review: Mio DigiWalker C230 Portable GPS Navigator
1. Very poor battery performance. 2. Very high current drain. 3. Small and nice 4. Good GPS performance, time to 1st fix is short.
Customer Review: Great price for good Navigator
there might be some better and newer Navigotrs in the market. But this is a great price for a product that gives you what you need. There might be largers LCD screens, more utilities, but, hey, if 99% of your time - is navigating - then it is good enough enjoy

Car Charger Adapter Cord Vehicle Power Cable for Magellan Roadmate 2200T 3000T 3050T 860T 6000T GPS By Chargercity (8ft Coiled Cable for Longer Reach & Easy Storage)

ChargerCity Vehicle Charger power cable for Magellan Roadmate 2200T 3000T 3050T 860T 6000T GPS
Customer Review: Workable but with a key flaw
I ordered this adapter as a “spare” for my Magellan nav system, which was listed as compatible. While the adapter mates with the nav, the connection is loose and prone to be broken as the cable pulls loose with the least bit of jostling. Sure, it’s something a bit of duct tape can fix, but not equivalent to the original equipment adapter in performance or convenience–hence my low rating.

Magellan GPS Companion Springboard Module for Handspring Visor

Written on 14 Februari 2010 – 20:52 | by Blogdetik

Magellan’s GPS Companion is a 12-channel global positioning system receiver that attaches to the Handspring Visor handheld through the Visor’s Springboard expansion port. The GPS Companion provides GPS navigation information and detailed street maps of the entire United States. The information transferred is in standard NMEA 2.1 format and will work with many Palm OS GPS and mapping software applications.

The Map Companion CD-ROM contains detailed nationwide street map coverage, divided into over 20,000 county and city files. With these detailed street maps, the GPS Companion can plot your location and enable you to navigate nearby roads, intersections, and selected points of interest.

The CD-ROM also contains NAV Companion software, which provides you with comprehensive navigation information, including an analog speedometer, a digital compass, and waypoint and route management capabilities. The GPS information screens on your Visor will show your speed, heading, and distance to the next waypoint.

The GPS Companion is powered by two AAA batteries for up to 10 hours of continuous use. Information from the Map Companion CD-ROM can be downloaded to the Handspring Visor from either a Windows or Macintosh platform.
Customer Review: GPS add-on for Visor
I have used this module in private and commercial aircraft, on battery and using a 12v vehicle adaptor. It works very well within the limitations of which-ever software that one runs. Good Value - espcially if you use any of the other modules such as the music-player.
Customer Review: get updates from magellan website for map display, etc.
do NOT use firmware update - it trashed my GPS and I had to hassle an exchange. So, DON’T load ANYTHING from the CD included EXCEPT MAPS - and do THAT after you load all the updates from the MFG website, EXCEPT DO NOT use the update labeled “gps updater” that they tell you to download to the unit - delete it - do not run it. You will be VERY happy with the new software for GPS and MAPS. The unit is fantastic

Delorme Earthmate GPS LT-20 with Street Atlas 2007

Written on 14 Februari 2010 – 18:28 | by Blogdetik

This package of the Earthmate GPS LT-20 GPS receiver and Street Atlas USA 2005 software can turn your laptop into a powerful GPS tracking device. The GPS LT-20 is a high-performance, easy-to-use link to the satellite navigation technology of the Global Positioning System (GPS). Accessing these satellites is available for no additional charge. Earthmate, connected to a USB laptop PC, shows your real-time position on detailed Street Atlas USA maps anywhere in the U.S., so you will always know where you are and where you need to go.

Compact and Powerful

This new GPS unit is one of the smallest on the market, measuring just 1 7/8″ w x 2 5/8″ h x 9/16″ thick. It comes with an attached 5′ cable with a suction cup on the cable designed to hold the GPS against the windshield or on the dash for optimum performance. Just plug the other end of the cable into the USB port of your laptop PC. It is best to avoid rapid and far-ranging temperature extremes, bringing the GPS indoors when not in use, just as you would a cell phone. The yellow reflective casing helps reduce high temperatures while on the dash. (Phone shown for size comparison only)

Getting Started Is Easy
Plug the Earthmate GPS LT-20 into the USB port of your laptop PC. The low-power chipset draws power from your laptop, meaning no GPS batteries are needed. Install the Street Atlas USA 2005 software, and load the entire second data disc onto your hard drive if you want. The software also includes over 4 million places of interest. Place the GPS as close to your front windshield as possible, ideally using the enclosed suction cup on the attached cable to hold the GPS against the glass. Click on the software GPS tab and you’ll see your position updated in real time on the maps as you drive. There are many custom GPS options included within the GPS tab.

Abilities at a Glance

  • Create address-to-address routes in the U.S. (and major and secondary routes in Canada)
  • Calculate overnight stops and fuel stops, including fuel costs
  • Find more than 4 million places of interest located from your GPS position, including hotels, gas, food, lodging, banks/ATMs, schools, colleges, hospitals–and also named places such as Wal-Mart, Starbucks, and UPS Stores
  • GPS track using the Show Turns window and see large arrows with your next two upcoming turns shown with large text
  • Select high-contrast map colors for improved in-vehicle visibility, helping to reduce in-vehicle glare
  • Listen to spoken directions calling out upcoming turns
  • Issue spoken commands (microphone recommended for best performance) and receive replies to common travel questions such as “How far to the next turn?”
  • Add and name new local roads to the maps and these new roads will be included in automatically generated routes
  • Use VIAs to select individual road segments to force the automatic routing to recalculate to your preferences
  • Automatically receive new route updates when you stray off course, selecting the distance off course you want to be before the software recalculates your directions
  • Add MapNotes, measure distances, and much much more
  • Access the GPS satellite system for no charge beyond the cost of the receiver

What Is WAAS?
WAAS stands for Wide Area Augmentation System and is a system of satellites and ground stations that provide GPS signal corrections. As is true of the GPS satellites, there is no extra charge or equipment required to take advantage of WAAS. Because the new Earthmate USB GPS is WAAS-enabled, it is possible where WAAS is available to experience accuracy of under three meters for the majority of tracking time.

How WAAS Works
The system consists of roughly 25 ground reference stations positioned across the United States. These ground stations monitor GPS satellite data. Two master stations are located on each coast and these collect data from the reference stations and create a GPS correction message. This correction takes into account GPS satellite orbits, clock drift, and signal delays, typically caused by atmospheric conditions. The corrected differential message is broadcast through one of two geo-stationery satellites or satellites with a fixed equatorial position. Any WAAS-enabled GPS, such as the Earthmate USB GPS, is able to read this signal and benefit from the enhanced accuracy.

WAAS Performance Considerations
As is true for all GPS usage, the location and environment of the user will cause variability in WAAS performance. For instance, the position of the satellites over the equator make it difficult to receive the signals when mountains or trees obstruct a clear view of the horizon. Therefore, it is safe to say that WAAS provides the best performance in open-area situations. Unlike DGPS (differential GPS), WAAS does not require additional receiving equipment.
Customer Review: Exceptional Value and Amazing Features
Couple this with the new 2009 Map CD and this is, hands down, better than any dashboard unit. Not only is it feature rich - the details are amazing; you can even have it search a street and get every phone number and address and person on the street… add them to phone book and put a place [reference] on the map for you to get directions - turn by turn. Also,of course, works like a regular dashboard unit - input a start and destination or just a destination …and it gives you visual and verbal -live - turn by turn directions right to your destination. If my laptop was a little smaller and lighter - this would be ideal. I have to admit setting up the laptop in the car for a short trip is not very practical … but other than that - it’s ideal. And inexpensive. Plug and Play. I’d recommend it to anyone with a laptop. Oh, and it’s great for pre-planning [of course] becasue you have your computer - not a little gadget… right in your living room, etc.
Customer Review: Delorme Earthmate GPS LT-20
I’m not at all satisfied with this product. I also own Microsofts GPS and I like it very much. I had the Microsoft one first and wanted to try this to see which is better.

Customer Review: a good buy
The little garmin is a good buy for the price. The screen is a little small to be using while driving but with a passenger/navigator it helps a thousand times. And make sure you don’t have it set to pedestrian mode while traveling on the highway!
Customer Review: Love it. After using a friend’s had to have one of my own.
I used a friend’s Garmin 200 and he swore by the thing. So I seen this one at an excellent price and got it. Took it the first day I got it on an out of state trip and it worked perfectly. Screen is nice size so you don’t have to stare to see the map, you can actually watch the road!

What’s in the Box
Meridian Platinum GPS receiver, PC cable, 2 AA batteries, wrist strap, user’s manual, and CD-ROM (user’s manual with 9 languages).
Customer Review: Works well enough
I’ve used this numerous times to find my way around blocked roads and unfamiliar cities. It was a good GPS for it’s time, but I’d suggest now to find a newer model, computer interface is pretty clunky and slow with this model if you want to upload more detailed maps to it. Recommendation: Nice GPS, past it’s prime, look for something newer if you are buying.
Customer Review: Upgrading your Magellan Platinum GPS
Yes, I agree that the Meridian Platinum is a wonderful GPS. However, I just logged on to the Meridian website and pulled down the latest upgrade to this GPS. The instructions were very clear about using batteries more than half full to complete the upgrade. I inserted new batteries to do the seemingly simple upgrade. The upgrade lasted more than three hours while the instructions said the task would take only a few minutes. During the upgrade, the batteries completely discharged and the unit shut down. The download reported 99% complete for over an hour but would not finish. The unit is now rendered unusable. Megellan has informed me that this unit is not repairable, upgradable or useable at this point. But they are suggesting that I can purchasing a remanufactured GPS to replace my Platinum. These prices are all over the $150 mark and hover closer to $250 for a replacement. I followed the directions to the letter. Their routine to upgrade rendered this GPS unusable now and I have to pay to get a replacement? I have used this GPS for hiking, automobile trips and have a great mount that I purchased for my boat. All this is to be tossed? This company may need to be looked at a little closer when thinking about a GPS purchase. I have another Magellan GPS, the Roadmate 760 that also needs to be updated. Imagine if I lost this unit as well? With no support from Magellan? In the future, I’d have to rethink my decision on selecting a unit from Magellan. I’m not at all happy with the response I received from them. It was their instructions which rendered this perfect GPS, useless. A real shame.

Garmin GTM 20 Lifetime Traffic Receiver for Select Garmin GPS

Written on 14 Februari 2010 – 00:08 | by Blogdetik

sends real-time traffic information to your compatible Garmin navigator, warns of traffic jams, accidents, emergency activity, and construction, lifetime free subscription to traffic-information service
Customer Review: Great traffic receiver with detailed alerts.
Perfect addition to Garmin Nuvi 775T to provide detailed traffic alerts. Lifetime feature sounds goods, but technology changes so quickly that future value is unknown.
Customer Review: Useless
There are a complicated series of steps required to activate the subscription, but there are no instructions included that explain how to go through all the steps (including getting a code from the device and entering it onto a website then getting another code and entering it into the device). Unless you have really good intuition about how to work electronic devices I would avoid this product and indeed avoid Garmin altogether. Update: I called Garmin to get help on this and the wait time to speak to an agent is over 20 minutes! Don’t buy this product unless you have a lot of time on your hands. Update 2: I finally got through to Garmin and according to the rep, all I have to do is connect my Garmin to a computer, run an update from the website, then, when the screen displays “Additional Updates” scroll down and select GTM 20 Traffic and load that update then exit and plug in the traffic receiver and follow the prompts to update the reciever. Got that? The instruction book that came with the device has a troubleshooting section. According to the book, if the device doesn’t work “Make sure it’s plugged in”.
